Michael Parsons has over 20 years experience in agriculture. He started with Ernest & Julio Gallo in Modesto, CA, where he worked on research and quality control projects with winemakers. He then worked with Pacific Ag Research (Arroyo Grande, CA), and Plant Sciences (Ripon, CA) in pesticide field research and development roles, before spending 7 years with Pioneer Hi-Bred Int’l in Woodland, CA and Johnston, IA, as a Research Scientist and Research Station Manager assigned to sunflower & maize insect, disease and drought tolerance projects. These project teams commercialized the Herculex 1, Herculex RW, and Herculex Xtra traits, as well as Optimum AQUAmax hybrids. Prior to joining AgBiome, Michael spent over 13 years with BASF in various R&D, Technical Service and Sales leadership roles. He was integral in building a regulated trait field development process and infrastructure, and was part of a team that successfully launched key BASF crop protection brands over the last 5 years, including Priaxor, Merivon, Nealta and Engenia, among others. He was most recently Business Director for BASF’s largest sales region (Western US), managing the business team from Minnesota to Hawaii and all parts in between. Michael was also on the executive leadership team for BASF’s US ag chemicals business.
Michael has BS and MS degrees in Biology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, as well as MS and PhD degrees in Agronomy and Plant Pathology from Iowa State University. He has been a registered Quality Manager (ASQ), Project Manager (PMI), and California Agricultural Pest Control Advisor (PCA).
Michael currently resides in Woodinville, WA (a suburb of Seattle), where he enjoys spending time with his family (Sheri, Sophia and Ben), golfing, hiking, and home brewing.
