Kelly joined the AgBiome team as a Senior Patent Agent in May of 2015. Kelly manages the patent and trademark portfolio at AgBiome and interfaces with the various scientific and business teams within AgBiome to develop IP strategies. Prior to joining AgBiome, Kelly worked for 15 years as a Patent Agent in the Biotechnology and Chemical Patent Practice Group of Alston and Bird LLP, where she focused her practice in the area of intellectual property and managed all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management, and client counseling in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields. Dr. Williamson was admitted to practice before the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2000.
Kelly received her Ph.D. in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her doctoral thesis focused on nuclear RNA Processing and employed Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to study post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Dr. Williamson’s research combined Drosophila genetics with the biochemistry of RNA binding proteins to investigate the mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing. Kelly received her B.A. in chemistry from Grinnell College, and while at Grinnell she investigated ion pairing and ionic conductivity in polymer electrolytes.
In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her greyhound, volunteering at horse shows, and spending as much time as possible at the barn.
